Robert started singing in church as a child and graduated to tenor in the choir as a young teen; eventually working his way up to top 40 duets with his sister. He became interested in the guitar from observing his graduate school roommate playing three chords over and over in the dorm. Figuring he could likely do that as well, he learned the three chords from his roommate. Much to his roommate’s amazement, Robert combined them with lyrics and began a continuing love affair with music.
He sings and plays acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin, and bass. He enjoys playing and singing really old oldies, country, gospel, bluegrass, cowboy music and rock and roll. Anytime you stop by, you’ll probably catch him with his hands on a keyboard or fret board trying to remember the words to some old song. A favorite time of year is in September during the Walnut Valley Festival at Winfield, Kansas where you can catch him around the campfire or on Stage 5 with the Wakiwi Inn Campsite Band.
For the past 10 years he has played contemporary Christian music as part of the Crossroads Church Main Street band, contributing both instrumentally and with vocals. He is also a founding member of “Grist for the Mill” which donates their musical talents primarily to retirement communities in the Kansas City area. In addition, Robert was a member of the “Trail Dusters” cowboy music group and has been an active performer in a number of Musicals including “Godspell”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Raincoat”, Sound of Music”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “The Cotton Patch Gospel” and is currently narrating and singing in the production of “Into the Woods”.
